Expand Your Horizons Lecture Series
Our fifth and final speaker in this series is Mike Thomin on Friday, May 18th at 6:00pm. Mike’s talk is titled Mosquitos, Muggles, and Museums: Exploring Florida’s Archaeology with Geocaching. Are you ready to get outside and explore Northwest Florida’s archaeology and history? Forget your fedoras and bullwhips; pick up a GPS device, and go geocaching! Geocachers, or scavenger hunt players, try to locate hidden containers called caches using GPS devices and share their game experiences online. This presentation describes how geocaching works, what you need to play and details about a unique geocaching adventure created by Florida Public Archaeology Network that will take you through Northwest Florida’s history and archaeology. STAR GAZING BY THE SHORE - Henderson Beach State Park
The Department of Environmental Protection’s Henderson Beach State Park will host a star gazing program. Volunteers from the Northwest Florida Astronomy Association will set up several telescopes for public viewing of star clusters, planets, and galaxies. They will also answer questions about the night sky. All ages are invited to enjoy an evening of star gazing. The park will close at sunset.
